This week’s Gran Turismo 7 Sport Mode Daily Race playlist strangely doesn’t highlight any of today’s (7th August) new update content, such as the Corvette C1 or Maserati MC20. The Toyota Ambulance, which we’re calling it, would make for a great race, isn’t in the game until later this month and the GR Corolla is tucked away in the Toyota GT Cup.
Well, that was our initial thought, but then we saw what is a the top of the leaderboard for Race C, and that gave us an idea…
For those new to these events within the game, you can find GT7’s Daily Races in the game’s Sport Mode, offering online ranked racing where you will be placed within events based on your previous performances.
Race A
There is no better race to showcase what the PSVR2 headset can do than Race A this week.
The Honda RA272 ’65 Formula 1 car is, clearly, without a roof. The starting position is also low-slung, and the suspension is on show. WIth the VR headset on, you peer over the chassis, look at the tyre and line-up your apex. It’s transformative, especially against a field of fellow 60s race cars.
Suzuka is the venue and the car is lively. Very lively. But, it’s on Racing Hard tyres, and in a way, the slidey nature of some Sports Softs perhaps befits the classic natures of this car, shame.
Recommended car: Honda RA272 ’65 (Legend Cars, 2,500,000 Credits or free rental)
Race B
Gr.4s at Spa-Francorchamps for a four-lap sprint, it doesn’t get much more derivative than this, sadly.
But hey, it’s popular for a reason, this is an enjoyable combination. No tyre wear, no fuel usage, just flat-out for 15 minutes on Racing Hard tyres.
Except, this is Spa, and that means changeable weather conditions, If you’re using your own car and not a rental, make sure you have purchased both Intermediate and Wet tyres. It’s also worth noting that if you start on slicks near the back of the grid, and it’s raining, you cannot pit during the rolling start. All that will happen is a slow tour through the pitlane and no tyres will be swapped.
There’s no clear OP car either, so take your pick. We’ll risk it for a biscuit with the mid-engine McLaren 650S for a change, just be quick when the weight shifts…
Recommended car: McLaren 650S Gr.4 (Brand Central, 350,000 Credits or free rental)
Race C
To celebrate the launch of the Gran Turismo Movie, in cinemas and theatres from the 9th August 2023, there’s a livery available in Gran Turismo 7 that is used by the lead character. It’s applied to the Nissan GT-R GT3, which can be used in this race.
Aha, a link to the 1.36 game update, at last!
Also, handily, the revised 2018-spec NISMO is rapid around Interlagos, so why not make use of your newly acquired white and red one?
6x tyre wear is not to be sniffed at, and while you can use Racing Soft tyres, you must use Racing Medium at some point during the race – watch out!
Recommended car: Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3’18 (Brand Central, 600,000 Credits or free rental or free at present by watching the Gran Turismo Movie tailer in the World Map)
Lap Time Challenges
Three Lap Time Challenges are available at the time of publication. One of which is about to end, this Thursday, with a Dodge Viper, then there’s one ending on 17th August with a Vision GT Mazda and finally, a special third test to celebrate the launch of the Gran Turismo movie which is available until September.
New update launched today
The latest Sport Mode Daily Races come on the same day as a brand new game update, which includes two/four new cars, five new engine swaps, four more single-player races and various other tweaks.
