Your guide to Gran Turismo 7’s Daily Races, w/c 31st October: Viper attack

This week’s Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races feature tuned road cars at Suzuka, Gr.4s at Autopolis and Gr3s around Dragon Trail’s Gardens layout.

This week’s set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races have the usual Gr.3 and Gr.4 events alongside a more interesting race where car tuning is permitted.

Race A provides a captivating challenge in that cars are limited to 246bhp and 1,100kg, which encourages a little creativity in terms of vehicle choice.

However, the Gr.3 and Gr.4 races are less exciting, as we see the same cars at the top of the leaderboards every week. Track choices are also familiar – GT7 is perhaps crying out for more track DLC.

As of the 30th of May, Race A’s performance will not affect players’ Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR), so feel free to race as hard as you like…

RACE A

Dodge Viper GTS '02, Gran Turismo 7, Suzuka

Race A uses Suzuka’s short East Course. The twist here is you need to pick and tune a car to meet the stringent 246bhp and 1,100kg limits. That sounds like prime hot-hatch territory, yet taking a more unconventional car choice route is the way to go.

Yes, a car with an eight-litre V10 engine seems like the perfect fit…

The 2002 Dodge Viper GTS is the second generation of the Detroit manufacturer’s Viper model and this example produced 450bhp and weighed just under 1,600kg at the time of its release.

To meet the weight and power limits, you will need to buy the maximum amount of weight reduction from the Tuning Shop, with ballast and power restrictor options a must. It seems overkill to use a muscle car only to neuter its huge power outputs, but the sound of the Viper’s low-revving, torquey engine will more than make up for it.

As a second option, why not tame the TVR Tuscan? Its six-cylinder engine also produces an awesome soundtrack – and it looks great too.

Recommended car: Dodge Viper GTS ’02 (Used Cars dealership, 120,000 Credits)

Race B

Gran Turismo 7, Autopolis, Alfa Romeo 2.5l V6

We’ve been here before. The Alfa Romeo 155 2.5 V6 TI has been a staple of Gr.4 races for as long as GT7’s Daily Races have been available.

Again, this week the Alfa stands head and shoulders above the competition; its four-wheel-drive delivery and lightweight construction suit the twists and turns of Autopolis’ Short Course layout perfectly.

It feels like Polyphony Digital need to have a closer look at the Balance of Performance (BoP) of the Gr.4 class, however…

Race B uses the Mid-speed (M) BoP format.

Recommended car: Alfa Romeo 155 2.5 V6 TI ’93 (Legend Cars, 800,000 Credits or free rental)

Race C

Gran Turismo 7, Dragon Trail - Gardens, Lamborghini Huracan GT3

For Race C we head back to Croatia’s fictional Dragon Trail circuit and its scenic Gardens layout. It’s a heavily used circuit in GT7’s Daily Races and the recommended car has been a favourite of the Gr.3 events for some time now.

The Porsche 911 RSR (991) stands above the competition once again, but this time I’m going to recommend a different car: the Lamborghini Huracán GT3.

Using the same V10 engine found in the Audi R8 GT3, the Lamborghini has a pleasingly angular shape which means it looks as fast as it goes. Featuring a mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive drivetrain layout, the Sant’Agata manufacturer has enjoyed multiple race wins across the biggest GT3 series in the world.

With 5x fuel consumption and 10x tyre wear, players will need to think on their feet throughout. Not only that, but players also need to use Hard and Medium race tyres, so picking a strategy is a multi-faceted challenge.
Race C uses the Mid-speed (M) BoP format.

Recommended car: Porsche 911 RSR (991) Gr.3 ’17 (Brand Central 450,000 Credits or free rental) or Lamborghini Huracán GT3 ’15 (Brand Central 450,000 Credits or free rental)

Lap Time Challenge

Gran Turismo 7's Lap Time Challenge, 27th October-10th November: Porsche power

The current Lap Time Challenge is also at an American venue, but this time Watkins Glen, short course layout. Far from a racing car, the tail-happy Corvette C7 ZR1 provides a stern challenge, especially as the gold-rating zone keeps on creeping away from you…
