In this week’s Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, we make a long-awaited return to the Goodwood Motor Circuit, with Gr.4 and Gr.3 races from Deep Forest Raceway and the Nürburgring Nordschleife’s 24h layout respectively.

Race A is a slightly incongruous affair as the BMW E30 M3 takes to the Goodwood airfield circuit – a track more used to vintage motor racing than late eighties/early nineties coupes – while Races B and C offer up more conventional sportscar fare.

You can find GT7’s Daily Races in the game’s Sport Mode, offering online ranked racing where you will be placed within events based on your previous performances.

RACE A

The car that started the famous M3 line of BMW cars, the E30 M3 is now a sought-after classic. Based on a standard 3-Series BMW (although the only parts carried over were the doors and roof), the M3 was designed with motorsport in mind.

5,000 examples were required for motorsport homologation and once complete the M3 began its storied and successful touring car career; winning races and championships across the globe.

Its dog-leg gearbox and suspension set-up were race-focused items for the road, and with 200bhp it was among the fastest cars on the market. Its four-cylinder engine was also particularly sonorous, with higher revs accompanied by an addictive intake noise.

Like most homologation specials from the eighties and nineties, values for the original M3 have shot up in recent times, with typical examples commanding around £70,000.

Race B

Deep Forest Raceway is the venue for Race B, with Gr.4 cars in use. And just like last week’s Gr.4 event, the Nissan Silvia spec-R Aero (S15) Touring Car is clearly the front-running car.

Although fictional, the Silvia Touring Car wears its extravagant wings and splitters well, considering the real-world car is a tuner’s dream. Its well-balanced chassis also makes it the ideal drift car platform, but keeping it neat through the sweeps of Deep Forest’s revised-for-2022 layout is key to quick laptimes.

However, Gr.4 racing in GT7 remains an enigma, as certain cars dominate for lengthy periods before being usurped by the next contender. At the very least it looks as though four-wheel-drive is no longer OP as recent times have seen the rear-drive Silvia and front-drive Audi TT Cup come to the fore.

Race C

On the back of the weekend’s ADAC TotalEnergies 24h Nürburgring race (20th-21st May 2023), we head to the fearsome Nordschleife for Race C, with a test of endurance and skill for GT7 players.

Unusually for Race C, tyre wear and fuel consumption are locked to 1x multipliers, with Hards the only dry compound of race tyre available. This should give you an indication as to the weather report…

Yes, expect some wet weather in this one and with a 13-mile long track it’s possible to have multiple wet and dry sections at the same time. The question is; which tyres to take and do you pit at the end of lap one to switch strategy? It all depends how comfortable you are driving on a wet track with dry tyres, which could influence your car choice too.

Perhaps the McLaren F1 GTR – BMW ’95 isn’t the best choice for changeable weather, then, but it sure does sound good. Its mid-engine layout means its not ideal for inclement conditions but its supple handling comes into its own in the dry.

For an easier time in the rain, try the Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept ‘18 or the BMW M6 GT3 Endurance Model ‘16.
