This week’s Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races see a slight change of pace as Polyphony Digital dispenses completely with road cars in favour of Gr.2, Gr.3 and Gr.4 racecars.
Race A sees Gr.4 take centre stage and, as usual, your results in Race A will not affect your Driver Rating (DR) or Sportsmanship Rating (SR).
Race B heads to Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps circuit for a battle between late ’90s sportscars and Japanese SUPER GT machines, while Race C uses Deep Forest Raceway’s Reverse layout for an intriguing Gr.3 battle.
Sport Mode offers ranked online racing where you will be placed within races based on your previous performances.
RACE A
Watkins Glen Short Course is the venue for Race A and is a slight departure from the often-used Grand Prix Circuit layout.
The Short Course configuration is most famous for hosting NASCAR events, providing a challenging – but rapid – test for stock car drivers. Just ask former Formula 1 world champion Kimi Räikkönen. The Finn took part in a NASCAR race at Watkins Short last year, moving into the top 10 before being spat into the barriers, injuring his wrist in the process.
The vehicle of choice for this Gr.4 event turns out to be a not very racy front-wheel-drive car; the Audi TT Cup. The Audi was designed for a single-make series in Germany but has recently found itself top of the tree in GT7 Gr.4 races.
Its bespoke racing DNA ensures predictable handling, and if knocked into a spin a boot-load of throttle will save the day. Bet Kimi wished his car was front-wheel-drive too…
Recommended car: Audi TT Cup ’16 (Brand Central, 350,000 Credits or free rental)
Race B
We head to Spa-Francorchamps for Race B, with an epic blast for the super-quick Gr.2 cars in store.
Gr.2 incorporates classic racecars from the 24 Hours of Le Mans, like the AMG CLK-LM ‘98, to Japanese SUPER GT contenders such as the Honda NSX GT500 and Lexus SC430 GT500.
However, it’s Nissan’s GT-R NISMO GT500 sweeping the board for Race B, standing head and shoulders above its competitors, securing its position as the most successful model in SUPER GT history.
And Spa is the perfect place to stretch the legs of these cars, with high-speed corners like Pouhon, Eau Rouge and Blanchimont suiting the Nissan’s trick aerodynamic package that took it to back-to-back SUPER GT titles in 2014 and 2015.
Recommended car: Nissan GT-R NISMO GT500 ’16 (Brand Central, 800,000 Credits or free rental)
Race C
Gr.3 racing has undergone a competitive renaissance recently, as more cars than ever are balanced fairly. This means the longer and more strategy-focused Race C is the perfect platform to showcase close sportscar racing.
With 2x fuel consumption and 7x tyre wear multipliers implemented, the race will hinge on when is the best time to make a pit stop. Both Hard and Medium compound tyres must be used, which adds another challenging element to race strategy
The car of choice for Race C is the fictional Suzuki VGT. It may not look like any Suzuki you’ve ever seen before but it has certainly proven to be Swift around the medium-speed sweeps of Deep Forest Raceway’s Reverse layout…
Recommended car: Suzuki VGT (Gr.3) (Brand Central, 450,000 Credits or free rental)
Lap Time Challenge
This fortnight’s Lap Time Challenge features the Ford Mustang GT ’15 at WeatherTech Laguna Seca Raceway.
A new Lap Time Challenge will become available on the 30th of March at 7 am GMT.
