Daytoooonaaaaa!

Sorry, I jumped the gun there. This week’s Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races feature both Gr.3 and Gr.4 races with a special trip to Florida and the Daytona International Speedway Tri-Oval.

Daytona was of course the subject of Sega’s classic 1994 arcade game Daytona USA and its amazing (or awful, depending on your musical tastes) soundtrack.

However, instead of driving the #41 Hornet car we’re driving another all-American hero – the Corvette C8. Races B and C visit Circuit de Sainte-Croix and Suzuka respectively.

As of the 30th of May, Race A’s performance will not affect players’ Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR), so feel free to race as hard as you like.

RACE A

Your guide to Gran Turismo 7's Daily Races, w/c 19th December: Let's Go Away!

Yes, as already explained Race A takes place on the oval layout of Daytona, meaning there’s no pesky corners to worry about. Which is a shame, as the Corvette C8 is far and away the most potent road car ever created by Chevrolet.

The reason for this? Well, the Detroit-based car maker eschewed the front-engined layout of the C7 in favour of a midship, competing directly with the likes of Ferrari’s 488, Audi’s R8 and Lamborghini’s Huracán models.

What’s more impressive is the C8 delivers all the thrills of Europe’s finest supercars but at significantly reduced costs. Nice.

In terms of racing, Race A will require a lot of clever slipstreaming as all of Daytona’s turns are easily flat-out. With damage disabled you can even afford to overstep the mark and scrape the walls a little. Not advisable, though.

Recommended car: Corvette C8 ’20 (Brand Central, 85,000 Credits or free rental)

Race B

Your guide to Gran Turismo 7's Daily Races, w/c 19th December: Let's Go Away!

We head to Circuit de Sainte-Croix’s ‘A’ layout for Race B and a Gr.4 race. This enormous fictional circuit measures 9.48km with 21 corners and was first introduced in GT Sport.

Its combination of high-speed and low-speed turns make it an interesting challenge, with the proximity of barriers providing extra jeopardy.

Our recommended car is the four-wheel-drive Nissan GT-R Gr.4.

Race B uses the Mid-speed (M) BoP format.

Recommended car: Nissan GT-R Gr.4 (Brand Central, 350,000 Credits or free rental)

Race C

Your guide to Gran Turismo 7's Daily Races, w/c 19th December: Let's Go Away!

We head to the Suzuka Circuit in Japan for Race C, for a Gr.3 event. With 2x fuel consumption and 7x tyre wear pit strategy will be a tough call, especially as both hard and soft racing tyres need to be used.

We’ve waxed lyrical about Suzuka in previous Daily Races articles but Japan’s Formula 1 venue is undoubtedly a drivers; favourite. With high-commitment turns and minimal run-off areas, Suzuka rewards bravery and punishes mistakes.

Our car of choice is the Mazda Atenza Gr.3 or if you’d prefer something less fictional try the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3.

Race C uses the Mid-speed (M) BoP format.

Recommended car: Mazda Atenza Gr.3 (Brand Central, 450,000 Credits or free rental)

Lap Time Challenge

Gran Turismo 7's Lap Time Challenge, 8th-22nd December: Raging Bull

The current Lap Time Challenge features the Red Bull X2019 at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. Do well here and you could walk away with 2,000,000 Credits. Nice.

A new Lap Time Challenge will become available on the 22nd of December at 7am GMT.

Recommended car: Red Bull X2019 25th Anniversary – Special Gran Turismo 25th Anniversary car
