Assetto Corsa EVO could very well be the zenith of sim racing – licenced cars, dynamic conditions, ranked multiplayer daily races, free-roam and even a custom graphics and physics engine.

On paper, the potential seems limitless, and those on PC can find out if it reaches new heights on 16th January 2025.

But what about PlayStation and Xbox owners?

Fret not, EVO is heading your way – we’re just not sure exactly when.

Initial PC launch is early access

When Assetto Corsa EVO hits Steam for PC owners in early 2025, it is worth bearing in mind that it’s early access.

This is a programme to release a game early, effectively unfinished, at a reduced price. Then, the developer (Kunos Simulazioni) is aiming to gather player feedback as it goes through a spate of updates, tweaks, bug fixes and further content.

Such a process is not commonly seen on console, although not impossible – Microsoft offers an Insider Programme, for instance.

Assetto Corsa EVO confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S

Assetto Corsa EVO’s developer KUNOS is owned by its publisher 505 Games, which in turn is part of Digital Bros.

In a financial report in September 2023, it confirmed ‘the next Assetto Corsa’ to be on console.

Assetto Corsa EVO console release date

The console versions of Assetto Corsa EVO (for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S) will not launch until PC early access has finished – the sim racing ‘version 1.0’ – at the earliest.

There is no timeline for this process, as it depends on how well the early access launch goes.

In addition, parent company Digital Bros has already stated that console versions are part of “long-term publishing plans.”

The importance of consoles for Assetto Corsa

While the genesis of Assetto Corsa is on PC, and certain features such as modding (AC) and online driver swaps (ACC) remain exclusive to that platform, PlayStation and Xbox are important to the franchise.

According to Kunos co-founder Marco Massarutto in a Traxion interview, almost 40% of Assetto Corsa sales are on consoles.

For Assetto Corsa Competizione, it employed d3t studios to port the simulation to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, before switching to Untold Games for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions.

It has not been confirmed yet if the console versions of EVO will be handled by Untold, someone else, or internally.

We do know it will support virtual reality on PC, but PS VR2 compatibility remains unknown.

    1. Hello – it sounds like you can rent any car you like to drive as a sandbox, but to ‘own’ a car to customise it, it must be purchased within the game’s economy.

    1. For now, we assume not – however, as it sounds like there is some form of mod approval process, that could open the door. Let’s see, we will try to ask next time the opportunity arises!
