Ambitious driving video game Wreckreation had vanished from sight for nearly two years, but a recent Facebook post and THQ Nordic quote to Traxion have confirmed its continued existence.
The project initially started as Dangerous Driving 2. Announced in 2020, it was the follow-up to the exuberant game (plus Danger Zone and Danger Zone 2) featuring hallmarks of the Burnout series – developer Three Fields Entertainment is led by ex-Criterion Games members.

By 2022, the nascent game had morphed into Wreckreation, with the ability to make spectacular tracks, in real time, in front of your online multiplayer friends. This feature and environment were dubbed “MixWorld”.
The last time fresh information was published was in August 2023. Also during that year THQ Nordic’s parent company, Embracer Group, suffered significant financial losses and initiated a ‘restructuring programme’, resulting in the cancellation of several projects and reduced resources.
Last week, the Dangerous Driving Facebook page sprung into life with a post that stated Wreckreation is in “finalling mode.”
Traxion has subsequently reached out to its publisher THQ Nordic, who was able to clarify that the team remains actively creating the title.

“We’re excited to share that Wreckreation is very much alive and in active development,” said THQ Nordic.
“The team at Three Fields Entertainment has been hard at work refining the experience, and we look forward to showing more in the near future.”
Mercifully, Wreckreation remains listed in a table of announced and upcoming games in Embracer’s latest earnings report, published earlier this week. There, it emphasised the importance of another THQ-published racing game with ‘wreck’ in the title – Wreckfest 2.
