Victory Heat Rally is a retro-enthused racer for those 1985 feels

There’s a slew of classic-inspired racing games either recently released or on the way soon, and Victory Heat Rally joins that burgeoning list. But, the development team SkyDevilPalm is also trying really hard to differentiate itself.

Sure, it’s inspired by the likes of Outrun and Rad Mobile, with a gameplay hook mean to make you play it ‘one more time’, the visual style is certainly retro and the countdown voice-over is suitable over-the-top, but there are modern features too like split-screen multiplayer and vehicle customisability.

Over the course of the game, you will experience 12 characters and 12 cars, plus 36 stages across 12 locations. There is the option of circuit racing or point-point routes – hence the name ‘rally’ in the title.

The game was originally funded via Kickstarter but exceed its stretch goals. It will be releasing in 2022 for PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch, with publishing from Playtonic Friends. A brief demo is also available right now on Steam as part of the latest Steam Next Fest if you want to check out an early version.
