Traxion Control Podcast - Career modes in sim racing...

On this week’s Traxion Control Podcast, the team dives into sim racing career modes, as iRacing, Automobilista 2 and Le Mans Ultimate gear up for single-player progression in 2026.

Assetto Corsa EVO’s change of approach for single-player content is analysed, some good, some bad, and your community comments on the subject are sifted through.

As ever, there’s a quiz, Full Send and Dead End plus, this time, a question from the Sim Racing Expo.

    Hi Traxon crew,

Big fan of your show. Listening to your discussions about career modes got me thinking about the function of practice sessions in story mode/career mode.

Real world circuit racing motorsport always has track-walk, practice, and qualifying before the race. This means you have time to learn your way around before you are racing hard. You may forget a corner, but it is your fault if you do so. Similarly the practice/quali/race format in iRacing gives you time for a lap or two before the start.
In contrast, games like Grid Legends or F1 Braking Point mode sometimes drop you in mid lap in order to cut to the drama. If you know the track, that’s fine. It is really frustrating, though, if you don’t know the track.
I’d say the F1 game should always have a (skippable) practice before any race. The fantasy is being a F1 driver and not knowing/remembering the track just breaks that.
You could even go further in really leaning into practice, such as including adding dramatic incidents from practice in the story. Or use practice to tune the AI before the race. Perhaps you are good enough for 95% AI at Monza but only 50% difficulty at Miami, and the game can detect that.

Anyway, love the pod. Keep up the good work!
