2025’s Tokyo Xtreme Racer will be the first game in the long-running series since Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Drift 2 hit the PlayStation 2 in 2007.
Although very little is known about Genki’s reboot, it has been confirmed it will be released on PC (via Steam) and will feature several iconic JDM cars. So far, the Mazda RX-7, Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) and Toyota Supra RZ have been officially announced.
And today (10th October 2024), a fresh trailer dropped, confirming the Toyota GR86 RZ is joining TXR’s roster of machines.
The 2024 GR86 RZ produces 238 bhp from its four-cylinder boxer engine, with drift-friendly handling suiting the kind of street racing expected in TXR. The car is a Japan-only special edition and its presence in the game at least indicates that more modern machinery will complement the already announced retro classics.
At the end of the trailer, a silhouette of what appears to be a Toyota AE86 Sprinter Levin (no pop-up headlights, so it’s not the Trueno variant made famous by the Initial D Manga series) is shown, indicating the identity of TXR’s next car.
