Marcel Offermans knows a thing or two about driving simulations, which is why you should pay attention to his current project, The Last Garage.
There’s a new racing simulation platform on the horizon, with a primary focus on realistic physics – The Last Garage.
Here’s everything we know, so far….
What is The Last Garage?
The Last Garage is an in-development sim racing game for PC, created and led by Marcel Offermans who was formerly at the helm of venerable title rFactor 2.
It uses an all-new, original, physics system built from the ground up mixed with the open-source Godot Engine.
The foundational simulation was initially designed with the vision to assist other sim racing projects, and is believed to be available under a proprietary licence, but it has also evolved into what’s expected to be a released game.

While other sim racing games have, so far, implemented slicker visuals, the focus for The Last Garage in these foundation years is physics, physics and more physics.
It utilities a modular system, with support for cars that even feature up to three axles.
“You can model a chassis that includes chassis flex and various aero elements attached to it,” so says The Last Garage’s explanation.
“Any number of axles can feature different types of suspensions and steering mechanisms and the driveline starts with an engine, a manual or automatic transmission, one or more diffs that feed power to one or more axles.”
Multiplayer event support
According to Offermans, who is all too familiar with rFactor 2’s network-connected frailties, work will be done to mitigate mass-participation sevrer errors, causing online races to be red-flagged, for instance.
“It features network simulations that can emulate latency and packet loss under different conditions, allowing you to build and test robust solutions,” claims the embryonic outfit.
It has also been used as the platform for a LAN esports final at the Sim Formula Europe 2025 event.
The Last Garage development history
Offermans was the Managing Director at rFactor 2 developer Studio 397. During his time at the project, it was purchased by Motorsport Games.
The Dutch developer left that company in 2022, only to resurface later in the year to found The Last Garage.
“The metaphor of the garage nicely captures my intentions. The Last Garage is a place you can go to get expert help,” he said to Traxion at the time.
“At the back of the garage, there is another door. It leads to another part of the company called the Research and Development area. What happens there is a secret, so we won’t be going there today.”
Then, at the 2024 Sim Formula Europe event in Maastricht, the project first surfaced publicly. An early build, combined with a Leo Bodnar wheel base allowed for testing for a vintage touring car and open-wheel vehicle around Bridgehampton Race Circuit.
In 2025, an updated build was showcased at the same event using the Welsh venue Anglesey and a licenced BAC Mono sportscar.
The future of The Last Garage
Presently, little is known, because simply, the final vision hasn’t been decided upon.
“What simulation will you be building? What features will be in it, and what content? The honest answer right now is “We have not decided yet”. There are many ideas floating around and we’re definitely looking to provide some unique experiences, but for now the focus is on the core technology,” reads a recent The Last Garage blog post.
