Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown major graphics update inbound

We enjoyed the structure and the grind of Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown when it was released last week, but were less keen on its visual performance and always-online nature.

Following log-in issues and continued server errors, the Nacon-stewarded Kylotton development team has implemented several network-related fixes. The initial log-in issues are now much rarer, and while server issues do sadly continue, they seem to be less common.

A major bugbear presently is pauses or errors when the game is trying to save your progress. According to KT Racing, this is “currently being fixed” and it will “continue every day to work tirelessly to resolve these problems once and for all.”

In order to do so, expect server maintenance where the game will be inaccessible and upcoming patches, according to the game’s publisher.

A form of in-game compensation for those who purchased the premium Gold Edition, only for its early access period to be blighted with errors, has previously been announced.

Further optimisation

On console, in order for the game to hit 60 frames per second, the resolution is lowered to 1080p. Alternatively, you can race at 30fps at 1440p. If you have a PC capable enough, you can run at 4K 60fps, but it pushes things to the limit.

In all cases across all devices, in our testing, there are noticeable performance dips. Hopefully, performance across the three platforms can be improved with further updates.

“A major update aimed at further improving the visual experience is currently in progress,” said KT Racing.

“We will share more details soon.”

“[The first post-release] patch will significantly improve game optimisation (framerate) on all platforms. The minimum and recommended configurations will be updated accordingly.”

“More than 300 fixes” incoming

Since launch, the Hong Kong-set open-world driving game has received server changes, but no downloadable game update.

Again, that is expected “very soon”, with a claim of over 300 fixes. Alongside the aforementioned optimisations, AI balancing and enhanced peripheral compatibility are expected.

Alongside the patch, the Nacon team is working on a video with KT Racing’s Creative Director Alain Jarniou to run through some of the feedback, and provide a development update.
