Cartoony Mario Kart clone Smurfs Kart is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S today (22nd August 2023).

Developed by Eden Games, the cutesy racing title enjoyed a successful launch for the Nintendo Switch in October last year, with Justin Towell’s comprehensive review stating Smurfs Kart has ‘a nice feel about it, looks good, moves, well, raises a chuckle or two and provides a cheaper alternative to Mario Kart while essentially offering the same gameplay’.

Speaking of which, the gameplay will be familiar to anyone who’s played Nintendo’s popular plumber-based racing title, with up to eight Smurfs characters battling it out in 12 Smurfs-themed locations, using power-ups, shortcuts and boosts to their advantage.

Although often dismissed by ‘serious’ racing game and sim fans, kart titles aimed at kids (Garfield Kart springs to mind here) are a great entry point to driving games, something we waxed lyrical about last year. Its local four-player split-screen mode also enhances its reputation as a family-friendly first foray into the racing genre.

Smurfs Kart releasing in August for PlayStation and Xbox consoles

Smurfs Kart is available digitally on PlayStation and Xbox consoles – and PC – now, with boxed retail versions out in North America from the 12th of September.
