After a 10-year wait for a new official PC and console WorldSBK game, SBK 22 will be released on 15th September.
The new title will be developed by the Italian team Milestone, which also creates the yearly MotoGP, MXGP and Monster Energy Supercross motorcycle platforms. This is not to be confused with the existing SBK Official Mobile Game, created by Digital Tales.
SBK 22 will include all the tracks, superbikes, riders and pit boxes from the current season plus the Tissot-Superpole weekend format.
There will be a single-player career mode, where you must work with your engineer and data analyst to find the optimum race set-up and work through a bike development path – sounding very reminiscent of the MotoGP 22 game created by the same team. You will be able to create your own fictional team, too.
Also, like the MotoGP titles is the machine learning-powered A.N.N.A artificial intelligence system for your on-track rivals plus sticker, helmet, race number and butt patch editing options. Online multiplayer will support up to 12 players.
There will be no Supersport World Championship (WorldSSP) or Supersport 300 World Championship support categories.
The current season is being led by Alvaro Bautista, ahead of six-time champion Jonathan Rea and reigning champion Toprak Razgatlioglu.
We first reported the news that the company had acquired the licence again after parent company Koch Media’s Q3 2021 financial results revealed all in February.
Prior to this announcement, the last official WorldSBK game was SBK Generations, which covered the seasons between 2009 and 2012 and was also created by Milestone. Since then, the Milanese studio focussed solely on MotoGP games, the most recent being the aforementioned MotoGP 22 released in April of this year.
