Swedish-based Ravine Studios has announced its arcade racing title Race Condition will be available to buy for PC via Steam later today (1st March 2022).

Created by a team of two developers, Race Condition is a retro-themed racer drawing low-poly inspiration from the likes of Virtua Racing, allowing players to take control of 80s-inspired Formula 1 cars against 11 opponents over a total of 21 tracks.

There are three game modes: Time Trial, World Tour and Multiplayer. World Tour is the main single-player experience where players level up to unlock tracks, as they aim to defeat their nemesis Mr. Dickmann. Yes.

Time Trial features global Online Leaderboards, while Multiplayer allows up to four people to play split-screen locally.

Marcus Lysen of Ravine Studios states: “Our goal with Race Condition was to explore the fun and speed of arcade racing mechanics but modelled with physics. It makes for a game that is fun from the start, but hard to fully master.”

With a keen focus on physics, Race Condition is touted as a bigger challenge than its looks suggest. And with pitstops also a factor in races, there’s a strategic element to match the test of reflexes.

With a number of high quality retro-themed indie racing games available or soon to be released – Gravity Chase, Formula Retro Racing, Art of Rally, Phaseshift – will Race Condition be able to compete?

Well, you can try before you buy by checking out the free demo on Steam. The game unlocks later today priced at $12.99.

Is Race Condition the type of Indie racer you’d like to play? Let us know in the comments below.
