Embryonic sim racing platform Rennsport will be moving into Steam Early Access in a matter of weeks.

For those doing a double-take and already thinking it was part of the programme, while it is already listed as early access, it’s actually in a ‘playtest’ mode presently. It will remain free to access during the change, with a ‘full’ release now expected sometime next year.

To make the change, a new user interface, a new car and some further tweaks and changes will be added.

BMW M2 CS Racing

The ubiquitous BMW M2 CS CS Racing will be making its appearance next month within Rennsport.

The one-make racing coupe competes in a DTM-supporting championship (BMW M2 CS Racing Cup) in the real world, and is also set for release in iRacing this December.

It’s compact, rear-wheel-drive, and the ideal learning tool for those then looking to step up to GT4 and GT3 cars.

This will become the new free car for those who sign up.

Fresh user interface

A work-in-progress user interface has been showcased, with the ability to select your favourite car as a backdrop. Special or featured events will be added to the home screen, for “one click” entry.

“We are trying to work with bigger boxes including images to relay what every menu option means,” said Rennsport’s Creative Director, Kim Orremark.

“We want to make it easy and very understandable.”

Lists are said to be bigger and easier to read, too. The fresh design is expected to be released through early access in December.

Founder’s packs on Steam

A perhaps controversial option when the nascent sim racing game initially launched into open beta on the Epic Games Store, the Founder’s Packs will soon be available via Steam.

This is only possible when it shifts from ‘playtest’ status to ‘early access’.

Three are available:

  • Gold – Nürburgring Nordschleife and one car ticket – €19.99
  • Platinum – Nürburgring Nordschleife, one car ticket plus the Porsche 911 GT3 R Rennsport and dynamic livery – €39.99
  • Diamond – Nürburgring Nordschleife, two car tickets plus the Porsche 911 GT3 R Rennsport and two dynamic liveries – €69.99
Rennsport Founders Packs

As previously announced, there is set to be a ‘Founder’s track’ based on a fictional island, which is still in development.

Battle Pass

A battle pass-style system to unlock extra items, in this instance seemingly shiny paint schemes, will also be available.

Completing certain tasks, such as time trials, will presumably increase your level, and certain levels paying out in-game rewards. It sounds analogous to the Formula 1 game’s Podium Pass, but the feature has not yet been showcased.

What’s next?

Beyond the Devember release, virtual reality improvements are said to be in the works, although it will be disabled in early access before a re-launch later.

This change will be alongside updates to the multiplayer ranking system to try and improve driving standards through an in-game reporting system.

Custom multiplayer sessions will purportedly arrive when a club system arrives. The initial version of the club is set for a Q1 2025 launch, and from there, custom races will be part of this feature once ready. AI racing is also expected within the first half of next year.

“We are working like hell to make it possible,” said Rennsport CEO, Morris Hebecker.

The next update is slated for a December 2024 release, while a full, non-early access or beta, version is anticipated for next year.

“Early access starts in December, and we can’t really commit to a [full] release date yet, but we are aiming for the first half of 2025,” said Orremark.

Update 27/11/24: This article originally stated that the update is due 4th December, but it will be ‘early’ December 2024.
