Red Bull Sim Racing has claimed the F1 Sim Racing Teams’ title in dramatic fashion, thanks to impressive individual performances by drivers Jarno Opmeer and Frederik Rasmussen.
Opmeer, who left Mercedes-AMG Esports to join Red Bull in August last year, already a two-time F1 Sim Racing champion, has enjoyed a successful season so far by claiming three wins. The results see him atop the Drivers’ standings after Qatar’s Round 11.
Last year’s champion, Rasmussen, has had a tougher time of it this season but still managed to win at Silverstone and claim second place in the previous round in Brazil.
However, it was his measured driving at the Lusail International Circuit that helped team-mate Opmeer get on terms with his main rivals at the front of the field, including Thomas Ronhaar, Ismael Fahssi and Bari Broumand.
And it was definitely required, as Ronhaar unsettled the Red Bull pair with robust, late-race overtakes in successive laps. Ronhaar, Opmeer’s chief rival for the Drivers’ title, scythed his way through to the front of the field with similarly abrupt overtaking manoeuvres, which eventually led to a post-race penalty.
The Dutchman overtook Ferrari Esports’ Nicolas Longuet for the win on the final lap but was adjudged to have used too much force against Opmeer earlier in the race and gained a time penalty, dropping him to fourth position.
Opmeer and Rasmussen finished a solid fifth and sixth, which was enough for Red Bull to claim the Teams’ championship with a round to spare.

The final round from Abu Dhabi takes place this evening (27th March 2025) at 5:00 PM CET, with live coverage on the Formula 1 YouTube channel. Opmeer holds a 21-point lead over Ronhaar, with Fahssi and Broumand still in contention for top honours.
