Racing Unleashed Esports: Coque López dominates at Silverstone

The four-time Gran Turismo World Series champion has won in the Racing Unleashed Esports series, successfully branching out into the LAN competition.

Racing Unleashed Esports Coque Lopez dominates at Silverstone

Coque López has won the fourth round of the 2024/25 Racing Unleashed Esports – Racer League at a virtual Silverstone.

The CHF 3,000 prize (~€3,100 / $3,200) was collected supremely, the Spaniard leading from pole position and never headed.

Maximising a pole position, thanks to a grid formed by reversing championship standings, López beat Janik Pletscher into Abbey and extended a lead as the pack behind jostled for position. He was then able to save his push-to-pass allocation until the latter stages.

“It was a difficult race because I knew starting first was a great opportunity,” said López, who was racing from Racing Unleashed’s Madrid lounge.

“Of course, that makes it easier, but at the same time, you have to manage the nerves.

“In the beginning, traction was not good, but I managed to keep the position. I had a couple of moments during the race, but it was great to be back on top. It’s been three years [since I last raced at Racing Unleashed] and it’s great to be back on pace.”

Racing Unleashed Esports Siro Zambra

Siro Zambra would make it two podiums from two races, improving on a third place at the previous race with second here. In fact, he would close to just over one second behind the winner come the chequered flag at the end of 20 laps.

The Swiss driver rose from eighth on the grid to fourth on the first lap alone, then passed Christoph Holstein thanks to push-to-pass usage one tour later. The same move was repeated on the third lap, passing Pletscher for second.

Racing Unleashed Esports Michal Šmídl

Meanwhile, championship leader Alejandro Sánchez started 14th, rising to ninth in the early running. Title protagonist Michal Šmídl, however, was able to move up the leaderboard at a quick pace, rapidly up to seventh, before claiming fourth by the halfway point thanks to a decisive move on Holstein.

Sánchez, meanwhile, was only in seventh by the same distance and would remain there until the end, unable to get by Vojtech Polesny. It means the Apex Racing Team driver’s championship lead was trimmed.

Racing Unleashed Esports Enrique Maranon

In what was a clean race, Enrique Maranon did spin at Farm Curve but wasn’t collected.

In the supporting Challenger League, for slower cars and less prize money, Guzman Miguelez won, ahead of Adrian Gomez and Salva Talens.

The next round is held once again across Racing Unleashed’s lounges on 15th February, with the circuit to be unveiled in the days prior.
