After months of teasing, Straight4 Studios lifted the covers off Project Motor Racing, a new racing simulation from the original team behind Project CARS and GTR, this week. No release date was announced, but an autumn/fall release window was confirmed for PC and consoles.

However, US retail listings suggest the new racing simulation may arrive at the end of September.

Retailers like Target and Best Buy are listing the physical PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Project Motor Racing with a 30th September 2025 release date.

This could be a placeholder date, but it does match the previously announced autumn/fall release window. In the UK, retailers like Amazon are slating a 31st December release date, which is normally a placeholder.

In the US, the boxed version costs $69.99 on Target and Best Buy compared to $59.99 for the digital version, while the UK version is listed for £59.99 on consoles and £49.99 on PC. Unusually, it will get a PC DVD-ROM disc release, though this is common for games like Farming Simulator published by GIANTS Software.

It’s not clear if the disc version has the season pass you get in the Year 1 Bundle, but it isn’t mentioned in the listing.

Project Motor Racing’s car and track counts possibly confirmed

Interestingly, the US retail listings have possibly confirmed new details, including the car and track counts. Project Motor Racing was announced with over 70 cars and 27 laser-scanned track layouts, but retailers are claiming it will feature “72 meticulously recreated cars” and “29 global tracks.”

The exact car and track counts have yet to be officially confirmed by Straight4 Studios or Giants Software. Update: Straight4 Studios has confirmed Project Motor Racing will have “27 scanned layouts” and “17 global tracks” in its latest newsletter.

Confirmed locations shown so far include Kyalami, Lime Rock Park and the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

VR support is also mentioned in the retailer listings. While VR compatibility is not listed on the Steam page at the time, Straight4 Studios CEO Ian Bell previously said that optimising VR for Project Motor Racing was one of the main reasons for switching from Unreal Engine 5 to the GIANTS Engine.

“A good sim needs VR in my opinion,” he wrote on X last year. “Unreal doesn’t work for the foregoing, so I’ve made a huge call, and it’s an engine change. Something more amenable and flexible.”
