New sim on the block RENNSPORT has officially confirmed that Porsche’s latest GT3 contender will be coming to the title.
The Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) is the Stuttgart firm’s newest GT3 car, featuring its distinctive rear-engined layout and rasping six-cylinder exhaust note. The car is capable of producing 565bhp and weighs 1250kg, but both figures are subject to the FIA and the SRO Motorsport Group’s Balance of Performance (BoP) calculations.
RENNSPORT teased an image of the new car earlier this week, but today’s (6th of January 2023) announcement confirms it will be the first 992-generation Porsche GT3 car to appear in sim racing. The car is also confirmed to appear in Assetto Corsa Competizione later this year.
An in-engine video has been revealed, where the detail is exacting – but of course, we await to test it on track in the platform before making judgements.
The 992 replaces the outgoing 991.2 model which enjoyed success across the globe, winning the Spa 24 Hours and taking multiple wins in the Nürburgring Nordschleife-based NLS (Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie) championship.
Porsche also enjoyed success across the pond thanks to its participation in IMSA’s GTD and GTD Pro classes.
The 992 joins the previously announced Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II, BMW M4 GT3, Porsche 911 GT3 R (991.2) and the all-electric Porsche Mission R in RENNSPORT, with its delayed closed beta set to begin this month.
RENNSPORT has been making waves within the sim racing industry of late, enjoying a close partnership with leading esports broadcaster and promoter ESL. Rumours that several top sim racers have signed up to race for ESL teams have circulated and been confirmed to Traxion.GG.
“Within this month, Rennsport, along with the ESL, will announce a big sporting activity,” said Rennsport’s CEO and co-founder Morris Hebecker to Traxion.GG.
