No, Assetto Corsa’s PS4 multiplayer has not been switched off

Contrary to recent claims, a “temporary issue”, which is now resolved, caused the original Assetto Corsa online services to malfunction – not a permanent sunset.

Following widespread reports claiming that Assetto Corsa’s multiplayer functionality had been sunsetting, the title’s publisher 505 Games has confirmed to Traxion that this is not the case.

When testing the PlayStation 4 edition of the game yesterday, 22nd July 2025, online racing was not possible – suggesting that the service had indeed been switched off and with no prior warning.

However, after reaching out to the publisher, it has confirmed that it was instead a “temporary issue” and by the evening of the 22nd, Traxion was able to browse the lobby list once more.

“We can confirm that we haven’t shut down multiplayer services/PS4 servers for Assetto Corsa,” said the spokesperson.

This was then additionally confirmed this morning, 23rd July, by the game’s formal announcements channel within its Discord.

“Several articles are reporting that the Assetto Corsa PS4 lobbies have been intentionally shut down, but this is not true,” reads the statement.

“We encountered a technical issue and we have been actively investigating and working to solve this in the shortest possible time.”

The sim racing title was ported to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles in 2016, and those consoles originally released nearly 12 years ago. At some point, it will be an inevitability that the cost of maintaining the online services outweighs the new game sales, but we would expect at least a warning or a notice.

For now, the many drift and Touristenfahrten meetups can continue.
