No, Assetto Corsa EVO will not be the official GT World Challenge game

That job stays with Assetto Corsa Competizione, according to the developer’s Co-Founder and Executive Manager.

SRO’s real-world GT World Challenge championship garners a packed grid of GT3 cars driven by world-class drivers and supported by GT4 and GT2 series to name but a few.

It also has an official video game, or sim racing title, in the form of Assetto Corsa Competizione.

However, with its developer Kunos Simulazioni busy on its next release, Assetto Corsa EVO, there has been speculation about the status of ACC and its licencing agreement.

This is Assetto Corsa Competizione – it will remain the official SRO game

Earlier today, 19th December 2024, some reports emerged online, evidently stemming from German general gaming outlet GameStar, proclaiming that EVO will take on the reigns as the official GT World Challenge game.

This is not the case, according to Kunos Co-Founder and Executive Manager Marco Massarutto.

“No,” said Massarutto when asked by Traxion if EVO will be the official title of the SRO-run GTWC competition.

“What we mentioned to Gamestar was that in the future EVO, being a game that features a huge amount of car classes, will have also some content related to the specific championships and I mentioned as an example the SRO GT World Challenge.

“We confirm that at the current stage there is no specific agreement in place with GTWC related to Assetto Corsa EVO and currently the only Official GT World Challenge Game remains Assetto Corsa Competizione”

Assetto Corsa EVO has so far unveiled some cars that are already in its Competizione sibling, used by SRO-affiliated and non-affiliated championships, such as the Mercedes-AMG GT2, Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo.

Massaruto discussed with Traxion that the current plan is for the SRO-affiliated GTWC esports competition to continue using ACC:

“We [will] continue just to use Competizione as it is now, with the features and content that we already have in place.”

Further ACC content unlikely

When quizzed about the potential for new Competizione content in light of EVO’s pivotal 2025, as it progresses through an early access programme, the answer was straightforward:

“No, honestly, I don’t think so,” mused Massarutto.

“We are actually in overbooking already with all the features coming for EVO, because the interest that is running EVO is massive. A lot of things can happen, and as you know we are more or less 35 people in the company.

“It’s time to stay focused on EVO for the moment.”
