Despite an absence of significant updates over the last few months, new content has just arrived for MadCow’s PC motorcycle sim TrackDayR.
Although it started life as a road racer, over the last year or so TrackDayR has switched focus to off-road racing, heavily featuring motocross, supercross and other dirt disciplines.
The new update (v1.0.101.85) once again refines the sim’s physics, adding two new tracks and five new bikes, as well as overhauling its UI and customisation options. We take a closer look at all the new additions below.
New tracks: Hell of Sand and Michigan MX 2023
Unsurprisingly, Hell of Sand is filled with soft, slippery sand. The track gently undulates with massive ruts in the corners showing off TrackDayR’s new ‘3D tyre model’. Although the track is fairly forgiving, it’s easy to get caught out by rising speeds.
Michigan MX 2023, on the other hand, is a more traditional motocross venue, featuring jumps, berms and track furniture.
New bikes
The new update features two dirt bikes: four-stroke 250cc and 450cc variants; plus two, similarly-specced supermoto bikes.
The headline addition, however, is the slightly bonkers Sidecar MX 660cc 4 Stroke. This off-road three-wheeler sees you control a passenger with the right thumbstick in traditional sidecar fashion.
Remember right-handers will be more difficult than left-handers so balance your speed appropriately!
New rider model and customisation options
TrackDayR’s rider model has been completely overhauled, opening up the opportunity to customise your avatar’s clothing choices. In future, Mad Cow promises to offer up a zany range of outfits for your rider – nothing says professional motocross rider more than a pair of jeans and a t-shirt…
New UI and physics updates
TrackDayR’s UI has been polished up too, with menus looking much cleaner and easier to navigate than before. As ever, MadCow has also refined TrackDayR’s physics, concentrating on the behaviour of tyres when in ruts.
Air physics have also been worked on, with the way the bike moves mid-jump calculated based on rider force, bike inertia, wheel angular momentum and air resistance.
