New F1 25 gameplay video shows off laser-scanned tracks and reverse layouts

We’ve seen the flashy cinematic trailers, but now it’s time for a first look at raw F1 25 gameplay footage to see how this year’s title is shaping up.

Hosted by F1 commentator Alex Jacques and P1’s Matthew Gallagher, the new gameplay video, presumably captured from the PC version, gives an in-depth look at four of the five circuits updated with new LiDAR scans. Codemasters claims these updated tracks are the “most detailed circuits ever released in an F1 game.”

Scanned during F1 race weekends, circuits including Bahrain, Miami, Melbourne, Suzuka and Imola will boast more accurate building cameras, safety barriers, TV cameras, marshal posts, advertising and fan areas. These circuits will also have more accurate elevation changes and kerb heights, which should bring a noticeably different feel out on the track.

Codemasters is also particularly proud of its more accurate trees, with specific species placed in each circuit – you’ll see Japanese cherry blossoms lined around Suzuka, for example.

This will be a welcome improvement, with fans often criticising the inaccuracy of some circuits. It’s going to be a long process, but let’s hope more laser-scanned tracks are added to F1 25 after launch or in next year’s game.

The video also showcases new reverse layouts of Silverstone, Zandvoort and the Red Bull Ring available for the first time in the F1 series, forcing you to relearn the layouts of these existing tracks for a new experience.

“The tech behind LIDAR gives players unprecedented levels of detail, bringing them closer to each race weekend,” said F1 25’s Creative Director, Gavin Cooper.

“Also, we’ve carefully selected the three reverse circuits to provide a unique and engaging experience for our players that feels polished, authentic, and fun. The process includes reworking DRS zones, retraining AI, recalibrating sector boundaries, repositioning the starting grid and pit lanes, and more, delivering new thrills and challenges.”

F1 25 releases on 30th May for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Players who pre-order the digital-only Iconic Edition will get up to three days of early access, a ‘Lewis Hamilton Iconic Pack,’ exclusive scenario chapters inspired by the F1 Movie starring Brad Pitt and more.
