Do you remember F1 Race Stars? It was a 2012 attempt by developer Codemasters to take what some regard as the pinnacle of motorsport, Formula 1, and shoehorn it into a kart racer.
So, real-world drivers and car paint schemes were present, alongside split-screen multiplayer, power-ups and tracks that bore the name of real-world counterparts, but were only a vague facsimile.
Apart from the car element, that seems to be exactly what GameMill Entertainment’s NASCAR Arcade Rush is, 11 years later.
While the game modes, early tack list, screenshots and bonus downloadable content were announced in June, a new gameplay trailer briefly showcases what appears to be an accessible and easy-going kart-like experience.
Among this footage, we can see split-screen local multiplayer briefly in action, alongside the wacky reimagining of popular venues with giant jumps and cambered turns.
We can also see boost pads – which seem to act in a similar way to those found in Wipeout or Hot Wheels Unleashed – but a lack of drifting around turns, which is usually a popular handling mechanic for games of this ilk.
All vehicles are, sadly, fictional (alongside your rival drivers), despite the official NASCAR branding. However, this looks to have provided a degree of customisation freedom, with tuning packs, emotes, livery changes and spoiler designs showcased. There’s also a driver level, presumably increasing the more experience points you collect.
Alongside the existing information and the latest gameplay footage, the 15th September 2023 release date has now been confirmed
