We’ve been tracking the progress of Stampede Racing Royale ever since it piqued our interest during its announcement 16 months ago.

We then touted it as a possible “multiplayer obsession” following a hands-on session with a very early build.

Since then, the Sumo Leamington-developed title has undertaken successive playtests and an Xbox Game Preview launch for both consoles and the Xbox PC app.

Now, the royale-formatted kart racer (which sees 60 players diminish across multiple rounds of racing and battle areas) has finally received a full release via the Steam storefront.

It is free to download and there is also a bold plan to remove all in-app purchases. So free is, well free.

“This move has been made to ensure as many folks as possible have the chance to experience and enjoy the game on Steam at an important time,” said the development studio.

To coincide with the launch, six new maps and six new karts will be added alongside over 250 new items for customisation, a jelly block power-up, further kart perks and a revised boost system.

There’s a tie-in with the popular sushi-gathering game Dave the Diver, including a kart that utilises fish-based wheels.

In the event rounds, a fresh ‘hard’ mode will now be through in the mix and players are set to receive new rewards for each subsequent day they play Stampede – a Road Roarer 250 kart will be unlocked for completing one week.
