Monster Energy Supercross 25 sees series return after hiatus

Following, what will be, a break of around two years, the official games of the real-world Monster Energy Supercross series will return in 2025.

The AMA championship missed a game this year, following a six-year streak by Italian studio Milestone.

But, it will return with Monster Energy Supercross 25 at some point soon (a release window is not yet known) and in the process, ditching PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The Milanese studio will continue to use Unreal Engine, but this time the fifth iteration seen in its recent Monster Jam Showdown truck game.

A brief teaser clip showcases what appear to be re-made rider avatars and movements.

Monster Energy Supercross 25 gameplay

There is a bold claim that the series has been “re-invented from the ground up”, alongside the promise of “new physics” and “new ruts” – the latter always looking impressive, but never really impacting physics in a naturalistic way, something that off-road bike racing rival MXGP 24 – The Official Game (now by Nacon and KT Racing) is promising to offer.

In past iterations, the game would be released early in a year with the prior season’s roster – for example, Supercross 6 was released in March 2023 with the 2022 riders, bikes and sponsors replicated.

That timing is set to change with Supercross 25 launching in its namesake’s year with that season’s line-up.

This new chapter is the result of intensive work and an extended development span that we took to ensure the game fully meets the demands of our community,” said Game Director Sebastiano Stefanetto.

“We have carefully listened to our players’ feedback and worked to deliver the most spectacular, rough, and dirty entry in the series. We are confident that our efforts will take the adrenaline and fun to new heights, entertaining both longtime fans and newcomers alike.”

In March 2023, it was unveiled that the series had sold over 2.3 million units to that point, but it was our opinion that the gaming franchise had lost its way a little. It’s refreshing that the studio could take a year out from releases to add new ideas.

We hope to know more and see the first gameplay footage as it nears a launch.
