A new F1 Manager 2024 ‘Feature Focus’ has dug deep into the game’s new sponsorship and marketability mechanics, with the game nearing its 23 July release date.
Budding Formula 1 Team Principals will be able to choose from a range of sponsorship packages, each offering smaller or larger guaranteed lump sums upfront. Players can choose a riskier route, however, and select sponsors with higher payouts based on their team’s future success (or not, as the case may be).
Engagement
Players will also need to meet a sponsor’s engagement target to keep them happy lest the money taps be turned off. This requires your drivers and staff to participate in sponsor events but these can be to the detriment of their overall performance, giving players a tricky risk/reward conundrum.
Do you risk making your factory staff less productive ahead of a crucial wing upgrade, or do you take a financial hit to ensure your car is as quick as it can be? These are the tough decisions you’ll need to take as Team Principal.
Marketability
The level of sponsorship you can attract is based on the marketability of your team. Marketability can be influenced by the standard of your facilities, your team’s overall performance and even your drivers.
Drivers have their own marketability stat, which is influenced by recent performances, how popular they are and how strong their team is. In a bold move, this stat is also affected by how popular F1 is in a driver’s home nation, which is set to fluctuate throughout gameplay based on how successful a nation is in F1, Formula 2 and Formula 3.
Affiliate Driver System
With the new Affiliate Driver System, players can sign up to 10 drivers from F2 and F3 to their squad. This allows them to compete in the junior ranks but also participate in Free Practice 1 sessions for your team (as long as they’re old enough).
It will be possible to influence which skills your young drivers need to work on by selecting development plans, with their rate of progression influenced by the quality of facilities at your headquarters. It’s kind of like the Red Bull Junior Team programme, minus Helmut Markko chucking all his young drivers in the bin.
