Releasing in around a month from now, the initial range of locations and vehicles won’t be all Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 – Turbocharged receives, far, far from it.
2021’s diecast racing game had not one, but three season passes which included a suite of new vehicles, track obstacles and customisation options. Alternatively, this content was all available separately. Then there were also three expansions, which added themed environments, challenges and vehicles.
Among the proliferation of paid-for items was a selection of free items and quality-of-life updates.
This format returns in an almost identical fashion for the sequel two years later, and the roadmap has been published. It’s worth noting that only two season passes have been announced so far, although it could be possible for more to be added at a later date should there be enough demand.
Season Pass Vol.1 will include 25 vehicles and two environments, whereas Vol.2 will feature 24 vehicles and a further two environments.
It all begins in October 2023, the month the game releases, with an Unleashed Edition of Twin Mill and an Acceleracers All-Star Pack, the contents of which are to be confirmed. It ends in June 2024 with a Mercedes-Benz set of vehicles.
Catching our eye is a Honda-specific modern classics pack in February 2024 and the previously announced Fast X content arriving in December 2023.
The four expansions are:
- Acceleracers
- Made in Italy
- Fast & Furious
- Alien Encounters
All DLC will be available across Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
Edition contents
Right, if it all wasn’t confusing enough already, certain editions of the game will bundle in some, or all, of the DLC as bonus codes.
If you buy the standard edition, you’re out of luck, sorry. The Deluxe Editon comes with the Vol.1 Season Pass and as an extra pre-order-only bonus, four extra cars: FusionBusta, Mod Rod, F1 Racer and Sand Burner
On top of that, there’s the Legendary Edition, which includes both Vol.1 and Vol.2 Season Passes. You receive the same four pre-order bonuses as the Deluxe Edition, plus four more: FusionBusta, Mod Rod, F1 Racer, Sand Burner, Electro Silhouette, Impavioo 1, Speed Bump and Sudden Stop. Phew!
Below is pricing for the versions, although pricing for the DLC separately is not yet available.
