Five new cars coming to Gran Turismo 7 soon

Kazunori Yamauchi has teased five new cars heading to Gran Turismo 7 next week.

Gran Turismo 7s November update will add five new cars

In his traditional silhouette teaser, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed that Gran Turismo 7’s next update is set to arrive next week. November’s update will be a large one, adding five cars compared to three in October’s update.

“Sorry to keep you waiting. The update will be coming next week,” Yamauchi wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

As always, each car is shown as a silhouette, sparking speculation about their identities.

A modern hypercar

The car at the front could be the Ferrari F80, Ferrari’s new flagship hypercar set to replace the LaFerrari. The slightly squared-off front arches and gullwing-style doors hint towards that.

However, the Porsche Mission X (unveiled in 2023), which previews the manufacturer’s next-generation electric hypercar and successor to the Porsche 918 Spyder, also has a similar silhouette.

Based purely on the timescales – the Porsche has been in the public domain for a while now – we’d hedge our bets on it.

Ford Escort RS Cosworth

While not confirmed, the car on the top right can’t be another but a Ford Escort RS Cosworth – identifiable with its distinctive rear spoiler.

Whether this is a road-going variant, or a Group A rally version (which would fit perfectly next to the Toyota Celica rally car in the game already) remains to be seen.

If not, surely there will be some suitable upgrades available…

While a later, WRC-spec, model of the Escort did feature within Gran Turismo 2, this marks the Gran Turismo debut for this specific generation.

Suzuki Jimny, again

The boxy SUV on the top left could be a Mercedes G Class or another Suzuki Jimny variant.

We’re going to guess the latter, thanks to the lines in its roof visible in the teaser.

The Jimny in the version is for the Japanese market, whereas the rest of the world receives a slightly wider model with a larger engine. This is available in the 3-door style with either four or two seats (as a ‘van’), or with a longer wheelbase and 5-doors.

Is that… a 992-generation Porsche 911 Turbo?

Judging from its wide haunches, the car on the far right looks like a current-generation Porsche 911 Turbo.

That’s ‘992’ for aficionados and we suspect either Turbo or Turbo S. Why this one? Well, the ultra-wide rear haunches.

If so, that means four-wheel-drive, dual-clutch (PDK) gearbox, circa 640bhp and mind-melting straightline speed.

A classic race car

Finally, the car on the left has a classic sports car shape. It’s difficult to identify, but our initial thought was the Skoda 1100 OHC racing car, which inspired the Skoda Vision GT concept, or possibly the Ferrari 375 Plus Competizione. The 1955 Mercedes Benz W196R Monoposto is also in with a shout.

PlayStation 5 Pro patch anticipated, but not confirmed

No other details have been confirmed, but the November update is expected to bring Gran Turismo 7’s long-awaited PlayStation 5 Pro enhancements. Sony’s upgraded console launched last week, but Gran Turismo 7 has yet to receive a PS5 Pro enhancement patch, with Polyphony targeting a November release.

Before the console launched, Polyphony confirmed that Gran Turismo 7 will feature in-race ray tracing and an 8K graphics mode on PS5 Pro. However, it can currently be played on a PS5 Pro at 4k and 120fps without a patch.

November update expected release date

A release date for Gran Turismo 7’s November update is not yet confirmed. However, the usual cadence for these updates suggests it will land on Thursday 21st November, with the car identities expected to be confirmed the day before.
