Gran Turismo 7’s leaping cars have been removed

It has all been fun and games, for a minute. But launching a Volkswagen SambaBus into the sky within Gran Turismo 7 should now not be possible.

Following the launch of the title’s 1.49 update at the end of last month – which added six new cars, fresh wheel designs and the Eiger Nordwand venue – modifying certain suspension values to extreme numbers would result in some strange side effects.

The result was an endless supply of social media clips and YouTube uploads fixating on the odd behaviour.

It followed an overhaul of the game’s physics system, which dramatically altered car behaviour – on the whole, racing cars now feel heavier. Some are more understeer prone, others snappier on the limit.

But clearly, something was awry when creating custom setups. Today, 7th August, version 1.50 has been released for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 drivers.

“Improvements to an issue where cars leap into the air if certain values are applied in specific settings,” is the sole note in the changelog.

The phenomenon was noted as a known issue recently, and action has been taken to avoid the strange scenes which marred an otherwise welcome suite of additions.

There’s no word on when the next set of content is to arrive for Gran Turismo 7. Of possible note, there is the second in-person Gran Turismo World Series event this coming weekend in Prague and there are several in-game limited-time challenges.
