This fortnight’s Gran Turismo 7 Lap Time Challenge takes us to the fictional Italian circuit of Autodrome Lago Maggiore.

Players must master the circuit’s 3.6-mile long Full Course configuration using Nissan’s new-for-2023 Z Performance model. The Z is the successor to the firm’s 370Z (also known as the Fairlady Z in Japan) which was in production between 2009-2020. The car changed very little during that time, so a refresh was required (a 2009 370Z was almost identical to a 2020 370Z, minus a few minor details).

The car was set to ship to global customers this summer, but sadly will not be coming to Europe – including the UK – thanks to our strict vehicle emissions regulations. Most Z sales will therefore be concentrated in Japan, North America and Australia.

The Z features a three-litre, twin-turbocharged V6 engine that produces around 400bhp. Combined with rear-wheel-drive and a two-seater layout, the Z is a serious sports car with a high bang-for-buck. ratio. Also, thanks to its strong turbo engine the Z will be a tuner’s dream.

GT7‘s Lap Time Challenge is a time trial mode where you compete against other players to set the fastest time on the leader board. However, there’s a caveat: setting a lap within three per cent of the fastest time nets players 2,000,000 Credits.

If you aren’t quite quick enough for that then lapping within five per cent gains you 1,000,000 Credits, while a time inside 10 per cent of the fastest results in a 250,000 Credit pay-out.

Autodrome Lago Maggiore is one the more heavily-used venues in GT7’s online races, so will be familiar to players. It’s sweeping chicanes and slow 90-degree bends are a test of patience but offer a chance for the Z to stretch its legs and engage in some sideways drifting action.

As of the week commencing 25th of April, if you don’t own the required Daily Races or Lap Time Challenge vehicles then GT7 allows players to rent them. For GT7 newbies, the Sport mode – where you can find the Daily Races and Lap Time Challenge – unlocks after completing Café Menu Book nine.
