It’s a new year which means a new Lap Time Challenge in Gran Turismo 7!
Our first time trial of 2023 takes place at Sardegna’s Road Track C layout and features the popular Gr.4 category. However, if you want to set a competitive lap time and win as many credits as you can there’s only one choice: the Subaru WRX.
The Subaru WRX enjoyed a period of near-dominance in GT7’s Gr.4 category in the early days of its Daily Races schedule, sometimes usurped by four-wheel-drive compatriots such as the Alfa Romeo 155 2.5 V6 TI ’93 and Mazda Atenza.

But the baton has been passed back to the Tokyo-based manufacturer this time, with its fictional Gr.4 racecar. It may not be real, but the Gr.4 WRX is based on Subaru’s own road-going WRX model famous for its rallying exploits.
Sadly, Subaru ceased its involvement in the FIA World Rally Championship at the end of 2008, but it still supports the WRX in North America where it topped the standings in the 2022 ARA National Rally Championship.
Unfortunately, the WRX road car will move away from its internal combustion engine roots shortly, with Subaru promising future editions will either feature hybridisation or electrification. So, enjoy that distinctive four-cylinder boxer burble while you can…
