Gran Turismo 7’s June 2023 update: all you need to know

The 1.35 update is available now for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 and includes three new cars. But, there are many more changes under the hood too.
Gran Turismo 7's June 2023 update - all you need to know

Yes, there is the Aston Martin Valkyrie, a first since (we believe) an AMR Pro variant within GRID Legends and the debut of an officially licenced version within the sim racing sphere. Happy days, Gran Turismo 7 players.

There are also further Music Rally challenges too, and more single-player races, so let’s dive into the details.

Music Rally is back!

The return of the esoteric beat-based game mode, as six new challenges have been added. You can’t avoid Music Rally, as it’s one of the first things you must play during the opening sequence of Gran Turismo 7. But then, strangely, it doesn’t makeup part of the main game, instead existing outside of the World Map.

Gran Turismo 7 - 12 Music rally

Even odder, there were only six events and a ‘coming soon’ message for further additions has been there five well over a year. That, interestingly, has also been removed, indicating that the total of 12 rallies is the complete set.

That changes now, with the following new tests:

7: JR JR – Good Old Days (Classixx Remix)
8: Jawsh685 – DRIFT
9: Nu Genea – Marechià (With Célia Kameni)
10: The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Conducted by Louis Clark – Hooked on America
11: Nothing But Thieves – Lifeʼs Coming In Slow
12: Masahiro Ando – Moon Over the Castle GT7 version

An essential upgrade? Nope. Remember, they don’t even contribute to your daily miles or credit reserves. However, at least several other elements have been tweaked and added to before these since March 2022.

Five new engine swaps

Surprise! Something we hope continues now there’s a new process for purchasing engine swaps in-game, five new engine swap combinations are available. Simply own one of the cars below, save up some credits and visit GT Auto to place a new motor incongruously into it.

  • Alpine A110 Première Édition ’17 (Nissan GT-R Nismo VR38DETT engine)
  • Nissan Fairlady Z Version S (Z33) ’07 (Nissan GT-R R34 RB26DETT engine)
  • Nissan GT-R NISMO (R32) ’90 (Nissan GT-R Nismo VR38DETT engine)
  • Nissan Skyline GT-R V・spec II (R32) ’94 (Nissan R92CP VRH35Z engine)
  • Nissan Z Performance ’23 (Nissan GT-R Nismo VR38DETT engine)

The three new cars

Take the world’s best Formula 1 engineer and ask them to create the ultimate road-legal hypercar. That’s it. That’s the brief. And now you’ll be able to experience it, and even in PSVR2, thanks to Polyphony Digital. Only, instead of having to squeeze yourself into the compromised driving position and splashing out $3.5 million (!), it’s a mere 4 million in-game credits.

We did think that by rights this should be a car you need a Brand Central invitation to purchase, such as the One-77 and Vulcan models, but thankfully, that’s not the case. Phew!

Gran Turismo 7, Lap Time Challenge, Red Bull Ring, Aston Martin Valkyrie

Elsewhere, the blob eye Impreza makes a long-awaited debut (in both Brand Central and Used Cars) and so does the original (well, third iteration of) Lancer Evolution. Now, where’s the Evo VII-iX, please?

  • Aston Martin Valkyrie ’21  – 842.07pp – 4,000,000cr – Brand Central
  • Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution III GSR ’95 – 474.33pp – 100,000cr – Used Cars
  • Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STi ’04 – 491.591pp – 50,000cr – Brand Central (42,000cr Used Cars)

Four new World Circuits races

For those looking for new single-player events to participate, four more have been added. As ever, if you own the aforementioned new cars these are some events to test them out in. Notably, there’s a new dirt-based race at Fisherman’s Ranch, something that is scarcer than a Loch Ness Monster sighting.

  • Fisherman’s Ranch – Japanese 4WD Challenge 600 – One lap, Japanese 4WD road car on dirt tyres, no pp limit – Maximum reward 30,000 credits

There’s no need to win races to earn rewards here, simply buy and collect cars. Two fresh Extra Café Menus are now available, themed around Mitsubishi and Subaru, and the full prize conditions and details are listed below. As per the new single-player World Circuits races, these involved some of the newly-added vehicles.

    Fanatec Gran Turismo Brand Central

Following the announcement that Fanatec steering wheel devices will now be used for official Gran Turismo World Series esports events, starting with the upcoming Showdown, the German peripheral manufacturer has a museum within Brand Central and the livery editor as a selectable logo.

    A new Lap Time Challenge

If you don’t have the 4 million credits required to buy the new Aston Martin from the off, then you can at least test yourself in one during the new Lap Time Challenge within Sport Mode. Set a good time, and you could even net yourself half of its purchase price as a reward, too.

    Several smaller tweaks

Alongside the addition of  ‘Monterey’ and ‘Field of Flowers’ scape locations and the 2023 real-world season livery for Gran Turismo World Series champion Igor Fraga’s SUPER GT Lexus, there has been a change to gamepad steering sensitivity, eight songs cannot be used in broadcast mode, required tyres will now show during the pit-in process (handy for Sport Mode events with mandated compound swaps) and cars now yet acquired in Café Extra Menus now display their availability status.

The in-race HUD now has a different icon for cars with the ability to use KERS too. The full changelog is listed below, courtesy of the Gran Turismo website.

But, what about new tracks, Vision Gran Turismo models and GT Sophy, we hear you ask. Well, we don’t know anything, but with an in-person esports Showdown event and the Gran Turismo movie both launching in August, that would probably be the most opportune moment for something significant, don’t you think? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
