It’s nearly the end of the month, and that means a new set of vehicles, challenges and tweaks for Sony’s Gran Turismo 7 racing game.
This time around, there are three new cars and two sets of Scapes – ‘California II’ and ‘Tokyo II – for photography. It’s available today, 29th September 2022, on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. On PS5 it weighs in at 1.131GB and 1.849GB on PS4.
However, perhaps the most important changes are buried deep within the update 1.23 changelog…
(Hopefully) improved network connectivity
I’m refusing to get my hopes up too far, but since the superlative online performance of GT Sport, Gran Turismo 7 has been somewhat of a let-down in this regard. Sport mode is acceptable, but lobbies see regular instabilities with cars moving unnaturally.
This in turn can make it difficult to race cleanly and fairly. Nearly seven months since launch, let’s hope the following bullet point is our saviour.
- Improved network connectivity
This is listed for the Lobby, Sport and never-used Meeting Place online modes. Elsewhere, the cursor movement when accessing the Race Shop when within a lobby will now hopefully prevent accidental exits.
The rest test will be over the coming weeks, and we’ll let you know should matter be significantly improved.
Logitech G PRO Racing Wheel support
The direct drive wheel base and load cell pedals have been big news in recent wheels. For compatibility sakes, if a game didn’t natively support its functions, it would still work, however now Gran Turismo 7 has been optimised for the new device.
In our testing, we thought the feedback through the wheel was on par with chief rivals and the pedals are up there with the genre leaders.
The Silvia Sisters Café Menu Book No.45
One new Café Menu Book has been added, fitting related to Nissan Silvia cars. With the 1994 K’s Type S(S14) now available, it’s time to fire up the classic front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports coupes.
There will be three new events pertaining to this book within World Circuits:
- Willows Springs International Raceway: Streets of Willow Springs, three laps, maximum reward 35,000 credits
- Tsukuba Circuit, three laps, maximum reward 45,000 credits
- Deep Forest Raceway Reverse, three laps, maximum reward 27,000 credits
Prize: Six-star Roulette Ticket (Parts)
Fanatec rotary encoder support
One of the advantages of a Logitech wheel, such as G29 or G923, when playing Gran Turismo 7 is their rotary dials which by default scroll through the HUD options, allowing for quick access to traction control, brake balance and weather radar settings.
Now, if you are using a Fanatec wheel with rotary encoders, you will be able to do the same. It’s a very useful feature, especially if you want to switch on traction control for a race start and then quickly reduce it to zero for the rest of the race. Pro-tip.
Two new Extra Café Menus
A quick prize for those who have collected several cars in Gran Turismo 7 already, the Extra Menus offer up a reward by simply owning three set cars. This time around, the following have been added:
Extra Menu No. 8: ‘Collection: Corvette’
Collector Level 20 and above
Own the:
- Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Sport Coupe (C2) ‘63
- Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (C6) ‘09
- Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray ‘14
Prize: Five-star Roulette Ticket
Extra Menu No. 9: ‘Collection: Mid-engine Porsche’
Collector Level 45 and above
Own the:
- Porsche Spyder type 550/1500RS ‘55
- Porsche Cayman GT4 ‘16
- Porsche 918 Spyder ‘13
Prize: Six-star Roulette Ticket
The most challenging Extra Menu to date. The Cayman is straightforward and arrived in Gran Turismo 7 through August’s update for 130,000 credits. The 918 arrived in July but is a hefty 1,600,000 credits from Brand Central.
The classic 1955 Spyder, however, is only available from the Legend Cars store, and that means it’s price and only available at certain times. Expect to pay in the region of 5,000,000 credits.

Alongside the three aforementioned Nissan Siliva-themed events, further races have been added to World Circuits, offering further events to earn credits through.

New cars
Oh yes, how could we forget? The purpose-built electric car record-breaking Volkswagen ID.R ’19, the open-air version of the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo and the modern classic Nissan Silvia K’s Type S (S14) ’94.
The VW and Porsche can be purchased at any time via the Brand Central Pavilion. However, the official patch notes state that Silvia is via the Legend Car outlet. Mercifully, it’s not, and is a reasonable price in the Used Car lot.
