With the launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro today (7th November), many games are getting patched with visual and performance enhancements to take advantage of the more powerful console. Coinciding with the console’s launch, F1 24’s PS5 Pro patch has arrived, bringing 8K graphics and on-track ray-tracing effects.
Based on an updated version of Codemasters’ EGO engine, F1 24 features three enhanced graphics modes on PS5 Pro.
Utilising the PS5 Pro’s ‘PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution’ AI upscaling, F1 24’s quality mode is upgraded with on-track ray tracing while running at 4K and 60fps. As a result, the lighting and reflections will look more realistic, particularly on wet weather surfaces. Previously, ray-tracing effects were limited to menus and replays on the base PS5.
Meanwhile, performance mode runs at an increased 4K resolution with a 120fps frame rate on PS5 Pro. In a first for an EA Sports game, a new Resolution Mode boosts the resolution to 8K at 60fps – providing you have an 8K display, with the performance dipping to 30fps in cutscenes, flashbacks, and photo modes.
“By leveraging the power of PS5 Pro and pushing the capabilities of our EGO Engine, we’ve created an unparalleled level of immersion that transforms the F1 experience for our players,” said Si Lumb, Technical Producer at Codemasters. “These enhancements push the game’s visual fidelity and performance and demonstrate our commitment to delivering an incredible experience for our players around the world.”
F1 24 is one of several racing games enhanced for PS5 Pro, with The Crew Motorfest and Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown also receiving updates.
There’s no sign of Gran Turismo 7’s PS5 Pro update yet, with Polyphony targeting a November release. However, Sony’s flagship racer will still run at a native 4K and 120fps on PS5 Pro without a patch.
Further F1 24 graphics updates coming next week
F1 24’s visual enhancements don’t end there. If you don’t have a PS5 Pro, all platforms are getting an update on 11th November that will enhance F1 24’s art, shader, and denoising technology in all modes.
As a result, trackside elements such as sponsor boards and barriers will be updated, while shader tweaks will “produce sharper reflections and a more realistic appearance, particularly in rainy conditions.” Finally, the enhanced denoiser will “generate cleaner images from simulated light in real time.”
