Instead, this is confirmation that the next official Formula 1 video game is poised for a release on older machines, alongside PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

This comes following EA’s Need for Speed Unbound being developed exclusively for the newer, current, devices only, and titles such as the upcoming Ride 5 following suit.

F1 23 is set for a Public Closed Beta, with the sign-up deadline being today, 21st April. To encourage registrations, the game’s official social media account highlighted that the test is open to PS4 and Xbox One players, and thus we believe confirming its existence for the older consoles.

F1 23 will be the third cross-generational Formula 1 driving game, following F1 2012 and EA SPORTS F1 22.

With chip shortages easing, the debate as to whether multi-platform games should still support the prior devices continues to rage on. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
