EA’s Q1 2023 Earnings Call revealed some interesting news regarding the sales performance of the recently released F1 22.
The game hit the market on the 28th of June and in our review, we thought that F1 22 “delivers one of the most complete and compelling packages in sim racing”. Although we were less impressed with the addition of the divisive F1 Life game mode…
“F1 22 sales are up double digits launch to date and the sport continues to boom, especially with younger fans,” said Andrew Wilson, Chairman and CEO of Electronic Arts Incorporated.
The success of the game has pleased EA’s executives, with the title topping the UK game sales charts on just its first day of physical release. As of the week ending 6th August, it’s still in the top 10.
“Net bookings for the first quarter exceeded our expectations, coming in at $1.3 billion, driven by our FIFA franchise and the F1 22 launch,” highlighted Christopher Suh, Executive VP and CFO of EA.
“F1 22 net bookings also materially outperformed our expectations, and the franchise has become a dependable driver of growth, having delivered double-digit growth for each of the last four years.”
F1 22 is the thirteenth game created by Codemasters, and the first since EA acquired the British-based studio in 2021. Given its financial performance, EA will be glad to see its $1.2 billion investment is paying off.
