End a 14-year victory drought: GT Sport Daily Races, w/c 8th November 2021

In October of this year, the #8 ARTA NSX-GT broke a winless streak for Honda at the Autopolis venue that reached back to 2007.

Tomoki Nojiri and Nirei Fukuzumi crossed the line first after jumping ahead of the Nakajima Racing Honda in the final pitstop phase of the race and this week in GT Sport, you too could take victory for Honda.

The online Daily Race menu for the week commencing 8th November 2021 includes the Super GT cars, Gr.2, and the Autopolis venue – the only discrepancy being the car itself. GT Sport only has the mid-engine 2016-spec Honda, whereas in the real world the car now has its engine in the front.

Let’s not let the details get in the way of a good time, however…

GT Sport Daily Races 8th November 2021

Race A this week follows the traditional route – a road car and a tight track. This time, the classic Tsukuba Circuit is the venue, and the car is the lithe Japanese rocket understeering, torque steering, Ford Focus ST.

Make sure the wheels are straight before hitting the accelerator – I should know, I used to own one of these and unless you were dead certain the surface was dry and the asphalt smooth you were almost certainly heading for the nearest hedge.

The middle race this time around is at the slightly shorter version of our favourite GT Sport track – Autodrome Lago Maggiore, West. The Gr.4 cars and sticky tyres combine for a close battle where the straight-line speed of the VW Scirocco will hold you in good stead.

It’s just five short laps and doesn’t feature any strategy, so a good qualifying lap time will be essential if a podium finish is a goal.

Race C is the aforementioned Super GT-aping event, with 12 laps of the Autpolis track. Or, as the official name reads, AUTOPOLIS INTERNATIONAL RACING COURSE. I’M NOT SHOUTING, THAT’S JUST THE NAME.

The use of two different tyre compounds is required during this race, and that means a visit to the pits. Watch out, this must be one of the trickiest entrances on earth.
