It was announced on Tuesday (2nd May) that Falken Tyre and Dörr Esports would be working together starting at iRacing’s Nürburgring 24h as the official Falken Esports team. Sim racers Damon Woods, Michael Rächl and Jan Ternjak have been tapped for the inaugural race for the team, driving the Porsche 911 GT3 R.
Dörr Esports, which was founded in 2020, has competed in many top level esports competitions over the last few seasons, including in the recent iteration of the Le Mans Virtual Series and with two of their drivers on loan to FaZe Clan, in the inaugural season of ESL R1.
They’ve been victorious in championships such as the ADAC GT Masters Esports Championship as well as the DTM Esports Championship. This partnership with Falken looks to be building off of their previous iRacing efforts as the team is poised to enter races on the 2023 iRacing Special Events calendar.
“After a second year of competing in iRacing events, it was a logical step to set up our own team,” said Dennis Wilstermann, Assistant Manager Marketing at Falken Tyre Europe GmbH in the press release. “With Dörr Esports, we have the right partner for us to progress in this exciting discipline of motorsport. This partnership will build Falken’s reputation as a leading motorsport brand, whilst reaching and engaging with a new audience in the passionate sim racing community.”
Falken Tyre has had its presence in racing esports for some time now. Coincidentally, Dave Cam’s most recent video on the Traxion.GG channel was about him competing in the Falken Tyre GT4 Challenge official series on the iRacing platform.
How this effects Dörr in their other endeavors remains to be seen. It may be something similar to how Verstappen.com works with Team Redline, or Virtual Racing School works with Coanda Esports, or how Stormforce Gaming works with Apex Racing Team. Or, it could be it’s own separate thing.
Good luck to Dörr and Falken in their new partnership!
