For us racing game fans, the PlayStation Showcase 2023 didn’t have much to gawk over besides a new trailer for the upcoming Gran Turismo movie. Right after that clip, however, Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan returned to the screen with a future device that could change the way we play the PlayStation 5.

“Later this year, we will launch a dedicated device that enables you to stream any game from your PS5 console using Remote Play over Wi-Fi,” said Ryan. “Internally known as Project Q, it has an 8-inch HD screen and all the buttons and features of a DualSense controller. We look forward to sharing more information in the near future.”

This handheld screen looks just like a Nintendo Switch, but sadly, it looks to be a little more restrictive. It can only play PlayStation 5 games via Remote Play from a PS5 you own. However, it doesn’t look like this will be a portable PlayStation gaming option, sadly.

It does, however, come included with “all the buttons and features” that can be found on one of their DualSense controllers. That means it’ll have a share button, haptic feedback, and possibly the best part—Adaptive Triggers, which are perfect for some of the racing games you can play on the PlayStation 5.

Later this year, you’ll be able to have the ability to play Gran Turismo 7, or Need For Speed Unbound, or even an older title like Wreckfest in the palm of your hand on an eight inch HD screen. We don’t know the actual name for this yet, but internally, Sony is calling it “Project Q”.

Also, can those “Joy-Con”-esque controllers be removed? It doesn’t look like it, but we don’t know that either!

“PROJECT Q” PRICE, RELEASE DATE

The price, release date, and other possible features are also still to be announced at this time. Jim Ryan kind of just added it on as a footnote to the presentation right before the Spider-Man game presentation. We’ll have to wait for information as it becomes available.
