Details and a new trailer for the upcoming Gran Turismo movie from Sony Pictures was revealed on Tuesday (2nd May).

The official trailer for the upcoming Gran Turismo movie, starring David Harbour, Orlando Bloom and Archie Madekwe as Jann Mardenborough was unveiled on Tuesday (2nd May). Gran Turismo is set to launch exclusively in theaters on 11th August.

This movie is based on the true story of Mardenborough, a kid who went from racing Gran Turismo games in his bedroom to becoming a winner of the GT Academy competition, a reality TV competition where the quickest Gran Turismo players entered a competition and the best made it to a real-world show down, back in 2011.

Mardenborough spawned that success into a real-world racing career as an official works driver for Nissan in various global motorsport championships. The Gran Turismo movie, directed by Neill Blomkamp, is the latest feature film to include sim racing and racing games as the overarching theme.

The film is also set to include Djimon Hounsou and Geri Halliwell-Horner in the cast, as well as Emelia Hartford. Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of the Gran Turismo gaming series, has also played a hand in the production of the film. The road and track portion of filming for the movie wrapped back in December of 2022.

While Gran Turismo 7 is the game depicted in the trailer, it was really Gran Turismo 5 that was the title that was utilized in the GT Academy competition. Obviously, this movie is not the exact retelling of Mardenborough’s journey through GT Academy and subsequent real-world career. However, it does look promising.

Just over three months away from the release. What do you think about the new trailer for the movie?

Gran Turismo, from Sony Pictures, releases theatrically on 11th August, 2023.
