Gentleman: start your engines. After hitting arcades over 25 years, Daytona USA 2: Battle on the Edge is getting a belated home port. There’s a catch, however: you can only play it in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.

Sega’s Yakuza games allow players to spend their downtime visiting virtual arcades and relive classic racers like OutRun. Last year’s Like a Dragon Gaiden featured a playable port of Daytona USA 2, albeit without the Daytona licensing – it was renamed Sega Racing Classic 2.

As Time Extension notes, this version was the ‘Power Edition,’ an updated version that hit arcades in 1998 featuring improved physics, a new beginner course and the return of the first game’s iconic Hornet race car.

Now, RGG Studio has confirmed that the original Daytona USA 2: Battle on the Edge will be included in the upcoming Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, renamed SEGA Racing Classic 2: Battle on the Edge.

Notably, it will mark the first time the original Daytona USA 2 has been playable on PC and home consoles when Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii launches on 20th February for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

Originally released in 1998, Daytona USA 2: Battle on the Edge was a worthy upgrade over the original arcade racing classic, featuring astonishing graphics powered by Sega’s Model 3 hardware, new fantasy tracks, including one set in a theme park and an astonishing sense of speed that still holds up today.

While it’s a relief to see Daytona USA 2 finally come to home consoles in some form, we’re hoping Sega’s new ports will get standalone releases soon.
