In great news for fans of Nintendo’s classic N64 console, Wave Race 64 will be powering its way onto the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack on the 19th of August.
As indicated by its title, Wave Race 64 is a racing game that takes place on the open water, as players tame their jet skis on challenging, stunt-filled courses. The star of the show is undoubtedly the water itself, as the game’s convincing water physics and weighty handling model stood out at the time of its release in 1996 (1996 for Japan and America, 1997 for the UK and Europe).
The release of Wave Race 64 will mark the third classic N64 racing game to reach the Nintendo Switch’s Online Expansion Pack – Mario Kart 64 and F-Zero X being the others.
Super Mario Kart, F-Zero and Stunt Racer FX are also available to play as an additional Super Nintendo Entertainment System free download.
Like most Nintendo racing games, Wave Race has a slightly eccentric streak – you can swap your jet ski for a dolphin, for example – but the emphasis is always on fun. In keeping with this theme, N64 fans will also be glad to know the Switch port will have the original’s two-player split-screen option at launch.
Switch owners with access to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack will be able to play Wave Race 64 from the 19th of August.
