The fate of Kunos Simulazioni’s official GT World Challenge game, Assetto Corsa Competizione, has been subject to widespread speculation since the Early Access release of Assetto Corsa Evo.
ACC has developed a passionate and sizable GT racing community since its release in 2018, across PC and consoles, but its last major content update (excluding paint schemes) came in May 2024 with the arrival of the free Ford Mustang GT3 update.
Since then, there have been a few minor patches and one bigger update to add 2024 liveries from the real-world GTWC Europe series (plus select designs from other series), with the game’s official social media accounts assuring the community that “we’re not done with Competizione yet”.

The future
In June of this year, Co-founder and Executive Manager Marco Massarutto explained to Traxion that future updates for the game were being considered, but no decision had been made:
“We are discussing how to keep it updated, at least until EVO is ready to take the seat.
“So, we are making some considerations, also with the SRO, and hopefully we’ll be back as soon as possible with some updates about that.”
As huge ACC fans, we tried to speculate on what this could mean, but the answer finally came at SimRacing Expo.

“No more updates,” stated Massarutto, to Traxion, unequivocally, when asked about additional cars and tracks for Competizione.
“One mistake we made with Evo is that we tried to make many things together,” he explained, accepting that the studio perhaps underestimated the enormity of creating Assetto Corsa’s sequel.
“So for Competizione, we are focused on providing the 2025 livery set for this season. But all the effort of the team is focused on Evo,” he concluded, emphasising that once the 2025 GTWC liveries are implemented in ACC, all of the studio’s attention will be directed towards developing Evo.

A racing simulation that is so successful should not be abandoned so easily. Even though AC Evo and AC Rally are now available, it is not the right approach. The GT3 series has its hype, and that should be continued instead of just dropping everything. ACC in particular is still so popular that events are held for it. New tracks or vehicles that belong to the GT world can still be added. What makes ACC special: many people know it from years of experience, it’s a good introduction to sim racing. The strong ACC community/general sim community. Kunos can’t just abandon the sim; that won’t make evo or rally any more popular if they stubbornly end every project instead of listening to the community.
Dear Kunos team,
it’s great to see that Assetto Corsa Competizione still has such strong player numbers and continues to thrive. A game with this much passion behind it shouldn’t just fade away, and the community would be truly excited to see more major updates in the future. Thank you for all the work you’ve put into ACC so far — we hope the journey continues!
