Assetto Corsa Competizione could be updated “until EVO is ready to take the seat”

Further changes and fixes to Assetto Corsa Competizione are still not confirmed, but the noises continue.

When Assetto Corsa EVO was released into early access on 16th January 2025, it came with an exciting roadmap of updates, additions and an estimated full release in the fall.

Consequently, this new title was the focus for its creators, Kunos Simulazioni. That meant Assetto Corsa Competizione has been left untouched. The last notable update was for 2024-season liveries (it’s the official game of the real-world GT World Challenge championship) 10 months ago.

However, recently, a social media post by the official Assetto Corsa account claimed: “We’re not done with Competizione yet.”

While further clarification as to what a possible future ACC update could entail is not yet possible, Traxion was at least able to glean further context.

“Since we are 35 people in total and we were 110 per cent focused on [Assetto Corsa] EVO, this required all of our effort, regardless of all the mistakes we made, and there was no room to think about anything else,” said Kunos Co-founder and Executive Manager Marco Massarutto to Traxion.

“Competizione is still appreciated by the community, but being a title that is strictly connected with a championship (SRO’s GT World Challenge), not updating the seasons or liveries is a bit like playing today an older Formula 1 game like F1 23 or F1 24.

“We are discussing how to keep it updated, at least until EVO is ready to take the seat.

“So, we are making some considerations, also with the SRO, and hopefully we’ll be back as soon as possible with some updates about that.”

SRO’s banner event each season is the 24 Hours of Spa, held this weekend, 28th-29th June, and often uses its hospitality suite through the week to host meetings and press conferences.

Kunos will be there, as it is debuting its first GT3 car in EVO – although it is not confirmed or denied that specific talks about Competizione will take place.

“A big question mark, honestly, we go there in ‘open mode’,” summised Massarutto when asked about the Spa event.

Further GT3 cars for Assetto Corsa EVO

What is confirmed, however, is the GT3 category of race cars for EVO – a class that ACC was built primarily around and is the most driven within the sim.

The BMW M4 GT3 Evo will mark the start of a GT3 influx for the new title as it works its way through early access.

“I would not make sense to have just one GT3 car in any game,” explained Massarutto.

“We are making several valuations about how to do that [fill the GT3 grid], but I can tell you that this is definitely the first GT3 car, it’s not going to be the last one for EVO.”

  1. They better do keep updating! So much stuff is still missing from the game which they say is the official the GT World Challenge game. For example, the tracks that host the Asian and Australian championships. When a racing sim ties itself to a real life championship, it doesn’t just become a racing sim, it also becomes a sports game! And sports games have to be constantly updated with new added contents to match the changes happening in real life.
