Tokyo Xtreme Racer will be coming to the PlayStation 5 – although it is not confirmed when.

At the end of a new car announcement – the Lexus LFA – what literally translates to a “PS5 developement decision” is announced.

Announced at the Tokyo Games Show, at last, the latest instalment in the long-running series will be developed for what many see as its spiritual home. Over three decades, the franchise has been across several different platforms, from Sega to Xbox and even mobiles, but it was perhaps the PlayStation 2 era that witnessed its popularity surge.

The current incarnation was released for PC only via an early access programme back in January, and since then, there have been notable game updates and, more recently, a teaser campaign of new vehicles for the ‘final’ version.

The Version 1.0 release, for PC, is today, 25th September 2025, which greatly expands the car roster, and sees the price increased to $49.99.

It sees you battling rivals in one-on-one race events during the night in the Japanese capital. Car customisation is a preeminent feature, with several real-world accessory and tuning brands – for example, Mugen – also added today. Additional gameplay elements such as the full campaign story, a NewGame+ mode, fast travel between parking areas and engine swaps.

Throughout our coverage of the game, the community and we have been clamouring for a console update. Now it seems those comments will be answered.
