With 23 playable characters at launch, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds boasts the largest roster in the series yet, with more to be added in free updates and a season pass.
Playable characters from the Sonic universe in Sega’s new kart racer range from the titular blue hedgehog to Tails and Knuckles, completing the leading trio. Other characters like Amy, Shadow and Jet round off the main roster.
Outside the Sonic universe, several characters from other Sega franchises are playable, including Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga from Yakuza and Joker from Persona 5. These characters will be added in a free post-launch update.

Included in the Digital Deluxe Edition, a season pass will add characters from non-Sega IPs, from Steve and Alex from Minecraft, to SpongeBob Squarepants, with more characters yet to be announced. At least five more character packs are confirmed for the season pass.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds release date
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will be released on 25th September 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, with a native Switch 2 to follow later this year. Those who pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition will get up to three days of early access from 22nd September.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds sees the titular blue hedgehog return to the track for the first time since 2019’s Team Sonic Racing. It introduces a new warping mechanic, where players can seamlessly transport to different locations mid-race by driving through Travel Rings.
Transforming vehicles also return, allowing players to switch between cars, boats and planes, harking back to the revered Sonic & All Stars Racing: Transformed. Unlike Mario Kart World, vehicles are fully customisable with a wealth of cosmetic parts and gadget powerups.
