Moza’s Active Shifter is a haptic gear shifter with 12 Nm of peak torque

In what has been a busy day for Moza, the Shenzen-based sim racing manufacturer has revealed its first Active Shifter, offering force feedback-enhanced gear changes for sim racers.

There’s one caveat, however, in that the Active Shifter Knob – priced at $39 / €47 / £39 – requires the firm’s flight simulator-focused AB9 FFB Base to work, with both bundled together at $588 / €646 / £588.

Nearly £600 for a shifter, active or not, may seem quite steep, but Moza promises the Active Shifter will deliver 12 Nm of peak torque (9 Nm continuous) with support for sequential and H-pattern modes, as well as handbrake functionality. Two interchangeable shifter knobs are supplied to mimic sequential and H-pattern gearknobs.

The all-aluminium Active Shifter will use its dual servo electric motors to provide vibration and resistance to mimic real-world gearboxes, presumably with the ability to tune its action via Moza’s proprietary Pit House software.

The Active Shifter’s unveiling arrives on the same day as Moza’s mBooster Active Pedal was released, expanding Moza’s range of haptic sim racing peripherals further.

Active shifters are a niche item in sim racing and are mainly the domain of highly specialised manufacturers, so the Active Shifter represents a more mainstream alternative for consumers. Whether or not this will make sim racing more immersive or not remains to be seen.
