Cadwell Park and Thruxton in development for iRacing

A recent iRacing development update has confirmed that three English venues were recently paid a visit.

The roster of iRacing venues based in England is set to expand, as two tracks have recently been ‘scanned’.

Anglophones may already be familiar with the five venues presently available for the subscription sim racing service, or six if you count Silverstone twice. Northamptonshire’s finest comes in two varieties: contemporary or circa 2008.

If you widen that scope to British, then you can also include Scotland’s inimitable Knockhill.

These are set to be joined by at least two more, with a duo confirmed by the platform’s recent development update blog post:

  • Cadwell Park
  • Thruxton

The pairing can be identified from the work-in-progress development images and their respective file names.

Cadwell Park is somewhat of an exception – despite the steeply raked run into Mansfield or the literal jump at The Mountain, the undulating venue is situated in Lincolnshire, one of the flatted counties in England.

It’s also extremely narrow and demanding. Just ask our very own John Munro, who won’t thank me for sharing this video…

Thruxton (featured image), meanwhile, is the fastest circuit in the nation, with the daunting Church corner taken almost flat out. This will only be the second time it has been laser scanned, following rFactor 2’s rendition released in 2022.

“Last time I mentioned our plan to return to England for track scanning. Our team has been busy these past several weeks and have captured drone, photo, and scan reference at three different circuits,” said Greg Hill, Senior Vice President and Executive Producer at iRacing in the post.

Of particular attention, Hill references three venues, but iRacing has only teased two new additions so far. It could be that the third track visited was to collect updated data for an existing venue.

If it were to recreate yet another new circuit, however, ‘English’ rules out British tracks in Wales such as Anglesey, Llandow and Pembrey plus Kirkistown in Northern Ireland if you stretch to locations within the United Kingdom.

Venues such as Croft, Mallory Park, Bedford Autodrome, Blyton Park, Castle Combe, Goodwood and the sadly decaying Rockingham are potential candidates.

No release date, or window, has been announced for these new additions.
